Re-launching my blog with a story close to my heart: A new highway in Taguig City that has an exclusive bike lane and walkway
Last October 27, I had the pleasure of trying out Phase II of the Laguna Lake Highway, a showcase project of Taguig City together with various partners.
What makes the highway unique is its three-part design. It will have: (1) Two lanes of roads for motorized vehicles that would connect Taguig City to the municipality of Taytay, Rizal; (2) A dedicated lane for bikers; and (3) An exclusive walkway. These features, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways, will ensure the safety of motorists, bikers and pedestrians. Not only that, residents living in communities along the highway will get protection from flooding, since the project is equipped with drainage works to prevent the backflow of water from Laguna Lake.
I joined the opening of Phase II of the highway with Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano and my brother, Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano. Also present were Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) President Vince Dizon, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar and Department of Transportation Secretary Art Tugade.
Phase III of the project covering an additional 4.3 kilometers is expected for completion by August, 2018. The Laguna Lake Highway, my kind of highway, is aligned with the Sustainable Transportation Bill which I authored, and my advocacy to develop walkable and ‘bike-able’ cities. #
